Legal Services Summary
Some of the legal matters we handle include:
- Chapter 7 bankruptcy: A Chapter 7 bankruptcy is sometimes referred to as a debt liquidation bankruptcy. In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, people and businesses have the ability to eliminate or significantly reduce dischargeable debts. Dischargeable debts may include credit card debts, medical debts, and other secured and unsecured debts. Some debts, like child support, alimony, and federal taxes may not be dischargeable.
- Chapter 13 bankruptcy: A Chapter 13 bankruptcy may provide debt relief. Sometimes referred to as a debt reorganization bankruptcy, a bankruptcy court has the discretion to approve a debt restructuring repayment plan, usually of three or five years, which allows debtors to pay all or part of their debts more gradually. In some cases, a debt repayment plan may also reduce certain debts in addition to allowing for additional time to pay debts. A Chapter 13 bankruptcy can be particularly helpful in some cases in which a party wishes to keep a home but is late on mortgage payments and is trying to avoid a home foreclosure.
